Anatomy & Physiology

The Digestive System module explores the organs and processes responsible for ingesting, breaking down, and absorbing nutrients, as well as eliminating waste. Learners will understand the digestive system’s structure, function, and relevance to overall health and massage practice.

This section covers:

  • Major digestive organs: mouth, oesophagus, stomach, small and large intestines, liver, pancreas, and gallbladder

  • Process of digestion and nutrient absorption

  • Enzymes, hormones, and other digestive secretions

  • Common digestive conditions and pathologies

  • Effects of massage on digestion, including relaxation, stress reduction, and improved gut motility

Students will consolidate learning using textbooks, diagrams, worksheets, and self-assessment exercises. Understanding the digestive system is essential for safe and informed massage practice, especially when considering client health conditions and treatment adaptations.
